Spring 2024
Dear USLS students, faculty, friends, and community members,
The US Latino/a Studies Program at Iowa State University continues ISU strong with cross-listed classes in the School of Ed, History, Anthropology, Spanish, and English, and with its own core, Community Engaged Learning classes. This semester USLS is offering the course, Latina/o/x Life Stories: Memoirs and Oral Histories, once again partnering with the Marshalltown Highschool students, in collaboration with their leadership group MUJERES. ISU students will be tutoring the craft of the college essay, and workshops will be held at the Marshalltown Library and Sloss House. We will feature an end of semester community event on May 4th at the Parks Library. All are welcomed. Stay tuned for details!
In the meantime, we will celebrate our USLS minors with a coffee and doughnuts event. USLS Ambassadors continue to feature student and community engagement throughout the semester. Please be sure to contact Amanda and Alexa for USLS 211 tutoring.
Graduation is around the corner as spring brightens our roads (hope springs eternal!).
Here’s to a dynamic semester of discovery and engagement.
Best regards,
Lucía M. Suárez, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Spanish and Latinx Studies
