The US Latino/a Studies Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Science is pleased to
announce the availability of scholarships for majors and minors in the US Latino/a Studies
Program. These scholarships are granted to qualified US Latino/a Studies majors or
minors who plan to participate in an approved internship focused on Iowa’s Latinx communities. Internships need to cover five to six weeks during the summer.
Award recipients will have distinguished themselves through superior academic achievement in
Latino/a Studies course work that has prepared them for a local experience in diversity, inclusion, education, and social work in Iowa’s Latino/a communities.
Four awards of $1,000 each for Summer will be granted.
Minimum Requirements for Application:
Applicants must either be a declared US Latino/a Studies undergraduate secondary minor/major or have completed USLS 211,
hold a 2.9 cumulative GPA, and be accepted into an approved internship program serving a Latinx community (see list on internship page).

Write a 1-page essay describing your goals for your internship, how
the experience(s) will relate to your US Latino/a Studies major or minor, and how such
experiences will impact your career plans.
Provide the name and contact information for one ISU faculty member who can serve as
Proof of planned internship or acceptance into an approved internship program
of at least five weeks. This can be an acceptance letter, an e-mail from the program
director stating you have been formally accepted into the internship, paperwork
or a Learning Contract.
